COVID Medicine

The COVID virus is spread and affected people all around the world. Due to the number of cases, there is a shortage of beds in the hospital and mainly a shortage in oxygen cylinders throughout the pandemic.
After the first wave, in few a countries, the cases reduced rapidly but there was no guaranty that it will not rise again. Soon a set of vaccines were developed- Covishield, Covaxin, Pfizer, and Sputnik. The vaccines had few side effects, but the number of cases started reducing all around the world.
There were few cases where the vaccinated person got COVID without knowing which started spreading. This caused a rush in the hospitals causing a lack of beds and oxygen cylinders, especially in India. To reduce the problem that arose due to fewer oxygen cylinders, high oxygen generating plants were brought.
Two-three days back scientists have introduced a new drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2-DG). It is developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This drug can be used to treat moderate to severe COVID patients. Scientists of (DRDO) and Hyderabad Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) during April 2020 researched this molecule and found that it works well against COVID.

To confirm the research, they clinically tested 2-DG molecule on COVID patients from May 2020 to October 2020. The result of the test showed that it is safe for use and that the patients recovered faster from the ailment. Several more trials were conducted on different age groups in different places. Finally, it was decided that it is fit for usage by all.
The drug is in the form of a powder that comes in sachets. The powder has to be mixed in water and consumed. It accumulates the infected cells and stops the further spread of the virus, also increasing the oxygen level in the body.
