This animal is a hybrid of a polar bear and a grizzly bear. It was discovered in 2006 by a hunter in Canada when he killed an animal that had white fur like a polar bear and brown patches, humped back, long claws like a grizzly bear. When he found that the animal was peculiar, a DNA test was done. It was found that it was a hybrid.
These bears are found in the Arctic as they eat fish and seals like polar bears. They use the same hunting techniques as polar bears. It breaks the ice with its feet and catches food. They are also found in the Northern Territories of Canada. So, they eat small bugs, fruits, flowers, and grass sometimes like a grizzly bear.
Scientists have developed a theory as to how this animal came into existence. According to that a male polar bear that was hungry and not able to find food wandered into the inland, it mated with a female grizzly bear. When the female bear had babies, it was a hybrid of the two. Scientists feel it is a good thing as polar bears are becoming extinct due to less food. Polar bears eat only fish and seals that are found in the sea ice. Due to global warming, the ice is melting making it hard for polar bears to eat.
There are a total of eight pizzly bears out of which two were killed by hunters and the rest are in captivity. Out of the eight, four first-generation bears have a 50:50 split of both polar and grizzly bears. As there are very few of these bears, scientists are breeding them in captivity to increase their population. Their target is to create a bear that can easily adapt to climate change.
