There are many varieties of fruits with certain medicinal values which are not known yet. Synsepalum dulcificum which is commonly known as MIRACLE FRUIT. It is an evergreen shrub that grows in West Africa.
When eaten, causes a sour taste subsequently consumed to taste sweet. This
effect is due to Miraculin.Thisshrub grows 1.8 -4.5 m height. They
are clustered at the ends of the branchlets. The flower is white which produces
2cm long red coloured fruit.
The berry of the miracle fruit plant is used
as medicine. People take miracle fruit to treat diabetes, correct chemotherapy-related taste
disturbances. In food, miracle fruit is used as a low-calorie sugar-free sweetener.
