The Kaveri, also known as Cauvery the name itself generates the Oodles of emotions in the people of South India.
Especially for the people of Karnataka and Tamilnadu. She is a goddess and everything for the farmers of the delta region of both states. Kaveri one of the holiest river in South India, also known as “The Ganges of the South”.
It originates in Kodagu, in the form of spring at Brahamagiri Hill at Talakaveri in the Kodagu district of Karnataka. A Small tank is constructed there indicating the source of the river.
It is the longest river in South India, covers three states and a Union territory. It splits into two places and forms two Islands of Karnataka. One is at Shivanasamudra and the other at Srirangapatna. The third Island is at Srirangam in Tamilnadu.
It has many tributaries such as Shimshal, Hemavati, Kabini, Arkavathy, Honnuhole, Bhavani, Lokapavani, Amaravathi and Noyal in the course of its journey.
There are several dams are built across the Kaveri river. They are Krishna Raja Sagar Dam, Amaravathi Dam, Mettur Dam, Kallanai Dam.
