A boat or ship considered in terms of its ability to cope with conditions at any water bodies for travelling. These Floating boats are never getting into water bodies. The reason behind is its hollow structure and Archimedes ‘s principle states that the force exerted on an object in a fluid is equal to the weight of fluid displaced (moved out of the way) by the object. This force is called buoyant force. The buoyant force pushes upwards against the object. Gravity exerts a downward force on the object (its weight), which is determined by the object’s mass. So, Boat density is less compared to water body density.
Though Submarines are in a hollow shape, They can go up and down water bodies. The bottom of the Submarine has tanks in which we can fill water or air. By Archimedes’s principle, the submarines may reach the outer surface of water bodies when tanks are getting filled with air. This process is called as positive buoyancy. In the same way, submarines can sinks into the water while filling those tanks with water. This process is called negative buoyancy. Those tanks are called ballast tank. The ballast tanks can also be used to help a submarine surface very quickly in an emergency.
Most submarines except nuclear ones have diesel-electric engines. The diesel engine operates normally when the sub is near the surface but it doesn’t drive the sub’s propellers directly. Instead, it powers an electricity generator that charges up huge batteries. These drive an electric motor that, in turn, powers the propellers. Once the diesel engine has fully charged the batteries, the sub can switch off its engine and go underwater, where it relies entirely on battery power.
