Recently, we are hearing people’s are suffering from gout. It is a form of arthritis characterised by severe pain, redness and tenderness in joints. It has for too long been associated with affluence and overindulgence of rich foods such as meat, seafood, and alcohol. Gout is due to the high deposit of uric acid. It is a waste product found in the blood. It’s created when the body breaks down chemicals called purines. Most of the uric acid dissolves in the blood passes through the kidneys and leaves the body through the urine.
The pain is likely to be most severe within the first four to 12 hours after it begins. There are some of the foods which are high in uric acid and they are Masur, rajma, chana and chole – either in whole or in split (dal) form. Among vegetables, and fruits, avoid green peas, spinach, cauliflower, French beans, brinjal, mushroom, custard apple and mud apple (chickoo). Avoid the above following food or eat moderately to avoid gout. There are some tips to avoid gout naturally.
1)Limit purine-rich foods.
2)Avoid sugar.
3)Avoid alcohol.
4)Balance insulin.
5)Add fibre content to your body.
6)Reduce stress.
Gout diet foods to be consumed:
- As fruit-cherries, Berries, Melons, Banana, citrus fruit and Tomato.
- As vegetables-Asparagus, mushroom, cauliflower and spinch
- As grains-Breads, cereals and lentlis.
- As legume – peas and beans.
- A low-fat dairy product such as eggs and cheeses.
